Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. Its population is estimated at over 160,000,000. The next country (Ethiopia) has just about half the population of Nigeria.

In 1929, the Aba riots occurred. It was a riot by women against high taxes imposed by British officials. The low return on their palm kernel crops lead to this. During the riot, buildings were burnt and some officials were driven off. Government troops sent in killed about 50 women.
Nigeria is listed among the "Next Eleven" economies. The list was prepared by Goldman Sachs and economist Jim O'Neill.

During the 30-month civil war, an estimated 2 million persons died (some say 3 million).

Nigeria has a coastline of over 850 km.

The majority of Nigerian Muslims are Sunni, but a small Shia and Sufi minority exists. There is also an even smaller Ahmadiyya minority.

The Eckankar Temple in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with a total capacity of 10,000, is reputed to be the largest Eckankar temple in the world.
